POE ON LOWER E-WALLET CHARGES

We urge the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to exercise its moral suasion over banks and financial institutions to lower their charges on digital wallet transactions as Filipinos strive to get over the hump due to COVID-19.

With the past months’ lockdown and the continuing restrictions, many have shifted to using e-wallets and digital payments, pushing earnings of banks and financial institutions close to pre-pandemic levels.

Millions remain jobless and those with a source of living are stretching every peso to sustain their families.

The reduced fees will not only lessen their expenses, but will also spur greater use of e-wallets.

Absent timely relief for our people who are our most important resources, the economy would continue to struggle to find its footing on the road to recovery.
